Sunshine Blogger Awards
I was nominated by The Music Week and here are my answers! š
A while ago, The Music Week nominated me to answer some fun questions for the Sunshine Blogger Awards. Itās very flattering the I was nominated, and Iām sorry it took so long!! But here are my answers to these fun, interesting questions! Check out the original post here.
What inspires your writing?
I like to write about things that intrigue or fascinate me, so things like music history or any kind of memory that is attached to music. Sometimes I like to write about situations that make me think deeply ā usually small moments of normal people. For poetry Iām usually inspired by nature or the way a phrase or grouping of words sounds.
What was your childhood dream?
Iāve always been fascinated by space and celestial objects and when I was younger I wanted to be an astrophysicist! Unfortunately, my brain does not like math or complex equations. Itās interesting how I can grasp some concepts of space and how science understands astral phenomena, but once the math is introduced to explain said phenomena, my mind goes blank š
What is your favorite book?
This is a tough one. The ones that come immediately to mind are Owls and Other Fantasies by Mary Oliver or Jesusā Son by Denis Johnson. But for very different reasons. It could also be because I reread those recentlyā¦
If you ever visited a concert, which one was your favorite - alternatively, what is your favorite performance you watched as a video?
I think the ones that stand out in my mind are when I saw Paul McCartney with my mom, or when my dad pulled me out of class early in high school to see ZZ Top. Paul McCartney was grand and explosive. The stadium was packed, the thousands of people singing in unison shook the bleachers. ZZ Top was energetic and I remember being in awe. My dad and I were relatively close, and I being able to physically see Billy Gibbons play was a treat. But also, I have a very fond memory of seeing Primus with some good friends. As for videos, I used to be obsessed with videos of Ritchie Blackmore of Deep Purple playing when I was in high school. Back then, while I was learning to play myself, the playing blew me away! I couldnāt stop watching them!
If you could learn any language, which one would it be?
This is tough! I think languages are cool! If I had to choose one, perhaps German, since I used to speak it a little and already know some. My sister speaks many languages and itās so cool to see how different cultures form their sentences or use certain phrases. I would also love to speak Spanish, Italian, or Portuguese. Or even Korean! Iām also deeply fascinated by sayings that canāt be translated. Words are magical in any language! If I could have a superpower, I would choose to be able to speak any language - thus be able to talk to anyone!
Which country would you like to visit one time and why?
Another tough one! I would love to travel and see more of the world. If I had to visit a place only once, perhaps I would choose India or China. It would be really cool to see the history and culture of these places, but they also seem busy and bustling which would make me anxious (crowds are a lot!). I would want to visit a place that seems completely different to what I know now, and maybe expand my mind a little more.
Is there any piece of art that describes you best (music, movie, painting etc.)?
Probably something musical⦠but itās tough because I appreciate and value all art. But punk and industrial probably describe my listening habits. Although recently I discovered an album of reggae versions of Nirvana songs and I feel like that embodies me from an outside perspective. Does that even make sense?
Also, here is one of my favorite paintings and Iāll let it speak for itself what you think it says about me. Itās called Orpheus by George de Forest Brush.
You can choose any person to write your next post with - who is it? (You can choose both alive and historical persons).
Iāve thought about this question a lot. To be honest, I am not sure. Iām an over thinker and would be nervous to meet someone that I respect or admire, or found influential for some reason, because what if they were a horribly rude person?? I think it would be cool to talk to random people, some ānormalā or non-famous, some famous. It would be fascinating to envision a clip of life from multiple perspectives.
Did you ever have that moment where you were like āI wish I would have written that song?ā. If yes which song was it?
Iāve thought about this before! I actually have not had a moment like this, maybe because of my own lacking self confidence, but I am more likely to be amazed that someone did write that song. It becomes kind of more inspirational to me. We are amazing and thoughtful creatures, us humans (when we want to be), and so Iām enamored by the way people express themselves and feel that I couldnāt have done it better than them, especially with emotional expression!
How did your passion turn into your passion?
I think once I made a decision to embrace creativity fully and not care as much about judgement along with the appetite to learn as much as possible, I believe thatās when I became truly passionate about art in general. But music in particular has always been there and I think I over time it just became more and more amazing to me. Itās abstract, or not, itās emotional, or not, and itās so varied. Thereās something there for everyone for everyone.
Tea, coffee or something else?
I like tea, but I am somewhat dependent on coffee these days. Coffee, water, and smoothies are my liquids of choice!
Thanks again for the nomination! If any of my friends here would like to participate, feel free (just tag me š). I really enjoyed these questions and pondering the answers!
